We’re thrilled to welcome Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary (JBWS) into the Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative monitoring network! Located in the freshwater tidal portion of the Patuxent River, JBWS has been a hub for environmental stewardship and community science for years.

Since 2010, volunteers at the Sanctuary have been monitoring three tributaries that flow through Sanctuary property. They monitor monthly, year-round, collecting air and water temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and pH. In addition, they collect nutrient samples, including nitrate/nitrite, ammonium, and phosphorus. Nutrient samples are then analyzed at the UMCES Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomons, MD.
Check out their data in the Data Explorer and discover more about their monitoring work or ways to get involved at jugbay.org
