CMC Team

The CMC is supported by five partner organizations that act as the CMC Service Providers by providing the following services to monitoring groups in the Chesapeake Bay region.

Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (ACB) is the CMC service provider for tier 1 and 2 water quality monitoring groups in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Delaware. This includes:

  • Providing support for new and existing water quality monitoring programs through study design workshops, water quality trainings and recertification workshops, and additional monitoring support.
  • Providing support for integrating data into the Chesapeake Data Explorer.
  • Providing data interpretation and communication trainings.
  • Project management of the Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative partnership.

Izaak Walton League of America

The Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA) is the CMC service provider for tier 1 and 2 benthic monitoring groups in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Delaware. This includes:

  • Providing support for new and existing benthic macroinvertebrate programs through benthic macroinvertebrate training and recertification workshops.
  • Providing support for integrating data into the Chesapeake Data Explorer.
  • Project coordination of the Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative partnership.
  • Providing support for the Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative’s communication plan.

Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring

The Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring (ALLARM) at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA is the CMC service provider for tier 1 and 2 volunteer monitoring groups in Pennsylvania and New York. This includes:

  • Providing support for new and existing water quality and benthic macroinvertebrate monitoring programs through study design workshops, water quality and benthic trainings and recertification workshops, and additional monitoring support.
  • Providing support for integrating data into the Chesapeake Data Explorer.
  • Providing data interpretation and communication trainings.

University of Maryland Center for Environment Science

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) is the CMC service provider for Tidal Tier 3 monitoring groups in Maryland and Virginia and Tier 1 and 2 monitoring groups in Maryland and Delaware. This includes:

  • Facilitating the Tier 3 Tidal Water Quality auditing process through the Chesapeake Bay Program’s Data Integrity Workgroup.
  • Providing support for new and existing water quality monitoring programs through study design workshops, water quality trainings and recertification workshops, and additional monitoring support.
  • Providing support for integrating data into the Chesapeake Data Explorer.
  • Providing data interpretation and communication trainings.

Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia

The Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia (CBNERR-VA/VIMS) is the CMC service provider that provides support for the Chesapeake Data Explorer. This includes:

  • Development and support of the Chesapeake Data Explorer.
  • Expansion of tools and capabilities of the Chesapeake Data Explorer.
  • Coordination of data transfer processes to the Chesapeake Bay Program.
