CMC Says Bon Voyage to Helen Schlimm

After an incredible three years, it was with a heavy heart that we said farewell to ALLARM’s Community
Science Specialist, Helen Schlimm, as she moves to Hawaii to be with her family and to explore island
conservation and restoration. Helen joined the CMC crew in 2017. She fit right into our team, bringing
grounded energy, strong attention to detail, and a can-do attitude. Helen’s time on CMC came at a key
turning point; she helped to provide feedback on the Data Explorer as it was being developed. She also
helped to roll out new monitoring initiatives. Notable nugget: Helen is single-handedly responsible for
the integration of all the Pennsylvania and New York data in the Chesapeake Data Explorer. In addition
to data integration, she played a crucial role in getting ALLARM’s Susquehanna Stream Team initiative
off of the ground, from study design meetings with the Susquehanna Riverkeepers and community
partners to chemical and biological training workshops. In her last week at ALLARM, she helped
conduct Stream Team’s first data interpretation workshop. Helen is an incredibly kind, patient, and collegial
human, and the environmental field is stronger with her a part of it.
