Izaak Walton League of America Welcomes New Save Our Streams Coordinator

The Izaak Walton League of America is excited to welcome Kira Carney as the new Virginia Save Our Streams Coordinator. To pursue her love of rocks and sharing nature’s wonders with others, Kira received her BA in Earth Science and Education from James Madison University. After spending a summer working with youth doing conservation projects in the VA state parks, Kira decided to set her career sights on community environmental education and earned her MS in Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England.

Kira has worked to engage a variety of communities in stewardship and science. She has worked with youth in state and national parks and coordinated a climate resilience conference for urban planners. She has also created science and civic action resources for a global network of teachers working to fight climate change. In her new role, Kira will be training and coordinating volunteer stream monitors within the Virginia Save Our Streams and Chesapeake Monitoring Collaborative network.
